About this deal

She had accepted Sally's many faults, and her reluctance to never speak of the past. But faced with this staggering deception, Alice knows she must uncover the whole truth about her mother. In 1786 a fisherman's daughter from Cornwall called Mary Broad was sentenced to be hung for theft. But her sentence was commuted, and she was transported to Australia, one of the first convicts to arrive there. Deception is Lesley Pearse's 30th book. What an achievement! She's been a favourite of mine since the beginning and I think that Deception is the best of her most recent books. It has what I love about Pearse's books: the tough upbringing, the family dramas, and a thumping good storyline. Before starting this book, I didn’t know if I was going to be getting sad vibes, happy vibes or something in between and to be honest, I feel a mix up of all of the emotions after having finished. Following Alice’s journey into her mother’s past felt like I was experiencing all of the surprises along with her. It was certainly a reminder to me that we’re all just humans. We tend to hold our parents to such a high standard when in reality they make mistakes and bad decisions the same as anyone else.um livro bem dramático, mas muito bom. Thank you to @michaeljbooks and Lesley Pearse for this advanced copy of Deception in return for an honest review.

I really liked Alice, mostly due to her ability to be rational and level headed. No matter what she found out, she always seemed to be able to keep calm and understand things from her mother’s perspective. Not only that but she carried the burden of this on behalf of her younger sister and her dad to protect them. It was interesting to read about Alice realising that some of her own character traits were inherited from her mother. I get all my books from the charity shops Vanessa and majority of them I read them only once and pass them on too. Remember Me is the title of the true story of Mary Broad, a woman sentenced of deportation by theft to Australia, in a reintegration project founded by England to populate this area. Mary was known as the first person to organise and participate in a well-succeeded escape from the penal colony. In that escape there were her husband, seven men and her two small children besides her. They were able to travel through around 5 000kms on a sailing boat in open sea. The book follows the protagonist since she leaves her parents’ house until the moment of the theft, including the violent boat trip, the horror in Australia, the intricate escape, the death of the children, her husband and people she considered family among other problems.

Retailers:

Mary, a Cornish mariner's daughter, makes the biggest mistake of her short life when she steals a silk hat. I loathed Sally at the start of Deception, but as she transmogrified into her different personas and Alice found out more about her, I felt I had come to know a real woman. Her life choices may have been forced upon her, unwisely chosen or even criminal, but what Lesley Pearse does so well is to show the reader why Sally behaved as she did so that there’s a reality to her actions and an understanding In the reader. Personally, I found "Deception" to be thoroughly enjoyable. Lesley Pearse’s work is a definite recommendation if you have an affinity for crime and mystery genres.
